Based in Morgan Hill since 1985, attorney Kevin Courtney serves clients in South County, the Bay Area and beyond. Before establishing his practice here, he was a partner in a San Jose law firm.
Kevin’s areas of specialty include tax and business law, construction, estates, and litigation. He believes in building long-term relationships with clients by offering focused, personalized legal services. He digs deep to understand all aspects of an issue and finds problem-solving the most satisfying part of the work.
Kevin is a recipient of the 2020 Martindale-Hubbell Distinguished Attorney-Very High Rating in both Legal Ability and Ethical Standards.
Courtney Law Group represents clients in civil and criminal tax matters. Kevin is licensed to practice before all California state courts — the Northern, Southern, Central and Eastern District Courts for the United States District Court for California, the Ninth and Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Tax Court.
Kevin has litigated cases in all nine Bay Area counties and throughout California. He tries cases regularly in the United States Tax Court in San Francisco with positive outcomes.
Throughout his career, Kevin has formed, advised and maintained hundreds of corporations, LLCs, LLPs, general and limited partnerships. He currently advises several hundred trust and estate planning clients.
Kevin has lectured on tax and estate issues on behalf of many major banks and businesses as well as for the Morgan Hill Unified School District, Gavilan College and the San Jose Tax Chapter of the Society of Certified Public Accountants. He was also a Lecturer of Law at Peninsula University School of Law.
When he’s not working with clients, Kevin enjoys giving back to the community.
In addition to wrestling with complex legal issues he was a founding legal counsel to Stanford University’s Cardinal Wrestling Club.
Kevin has also been a volunteer wrestling coach at the high school and club level, and he placed as a silver medalist at the U.S. National Wrestling Championships in his veteran age group.
Kevin and his wife Pamela have raised their two children in Santa Clara County. Now he enjoys spending time with his young grandson and looks forward to his annual kayaking trip to the Bahamas.

Kevin received his Bachelor of Science degree and his Juris Doctor from the University of Santa Clara. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1977.
